NetWorker Policy has a Workflow. The Workflow has a Group with two clients; The Workflow has a Probe action to trigger a Backup activity; The probe succeeds on client 1. It fails on client 2, but the backup runs on both clients. This causes a failure on client 2.The result is that both clients run savefs. One of them succeeds. One of them fails.
As Per the NetWorker Administration Guide:Specify when to start the subsequent backup action:> To start the backup action only if all the probes associated with client resources in the assigned group succeed. Select the Start backup only after all probes succeed checkbox.> To start the backup action if any of the probes associated with a client resource in the assigned group succeed. Clear the Start backup only after all probes succeed checkbox. Each workflow can only have one probe action and one backup action. The probe action will succeed or fail. A success will trigger the next backup activity. The probe can have two settings;Start the backup if all clients succeed (either checked or unchecked).> Start the backup if All clients succeed - if the option is checked it means that all clients succeeded during the probe. > Start the backup if All clients succeed - if the option is unchecked it means that any client succeeded the probe. A probe success triggers the backup activity. When you have a condition where a probe succeeds, one client is valid for all clients. Then you can have all clients with the same probe in the same group. The probe succeeds and triggers the backup. However if you have a scenario like this use case,Where a probe success will always occur on an active client and always fail on a non-active client. Then you cannot have both clients in the same group.A Probe success for one client causes the probe action to succeed and trigger backup action for all clients in the group. This causes failure on a non-active client even though it's own probe failed.
In this use case scenario we want a probe to succeed on client 1 and run backup only for client 1.While simultaneously, the probe for client 2 will fail and not run the backup for client 2.Solution:Add Client 1 in its own Group1 and Workflow1. Add Client 2 in its own Group2 and Workflow2.Each Workflow has its own Probe action and backup action. In this way:When Workflow1 Probe succeeds it only triggers backup action of client 1 / group 1.When Workflow2 Probe succeeds, it only triggers backup action of client 2 / group 2.
