Trying to join an unencrypted node (non-SED) to an encrypted (SED) cluster fails.
Originally, the only time that SED and non-SED nodes were allowed to be mixed was during the migration process from non-SED to SED.
Since release, for various reasons, customers have asked for the ability to create and maintain clusters in this configuration. Under certain, specific circumstances it is allowed. You would must discuss the situation with your account team to see if your configuration would be supported.
