- The router’s memory usage increases steadily over time, even when little or no traffic is passing through the device. - System logs may report warnings that used memory exceeds a critical threshold (for example, ?Used Memory value XX% exceeds critical level YY%?). - The SD-WAN control process (vdaemon) holds an unusually large amount of memory. - The device may unexpectedly reload. After a reload, memory growth resumes.
- This issue has been observed on Cisco routers operating in SD-WAN Controller-Managed mode (not autonomous mode). - The problem is more likely when SD-WAN controller connectivity is unstable (for example, when management or control servers become unavailable or the number of reachable controllers fluctuates).
- Reload the device to temporarily free memory. Note: This causes a service interruption and does not resolve the underlying issue. Memory usage may grow again after the reload. - Maintain stable connectivity to SD-WAN controllers to reduce the chance of triggering the leak. - Monitor device memory and plan maintenance reloads if usage approaches critical levels.
