During a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) firmware update on HPE Compute XD690 systems, the OS‑facing 1GbE (Intel I210) interface on the DC‑SCM module temporarily disconnects as the update initiates a brief DC‑SCM reset and BMC services restart.This condition interrupts OS‑level connectivity (for example SSH or services bound to that NIC) for the duration of the update cycle, while the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) dedicated management port remains online and available for remote access and power control.Management access via the BMC dedicated LAN remains available throughout the update, enabling remote recovery without physical access. Physical intervention is only required in environments that lack a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) network path and rely solely on the OS 1GbE interface.

No action is required if access is maintained through the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) dedicated LAN; the OS-facing 1GbE link restores automatically after the update completes.If a reboot is required, perform it remotely via Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) using these commands:Graceful reboot:ipmitool chassis power cycle.Hard power off/on:ipmitool chassis power off.ipmitool chassis power on.Use the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) management network path for all update and recovery workflows to avoid losing access during the temporary OS NIC drop.Conditions that might be experienced:Temporary loss of OS connectivity on the Intel I210 1GbE network adapter during the update.No loss of management access via the BMC dedicated LAN.OS-bound services might experience brief interruption until the network adapter link up.Before Installation:Perform BMC updates using the BMC dedicated management port, not the OS 1GbE path.Notify operators that the OS 1GbE network adapter will briefly disconnect as part of expected conditions.Verify that the BMC/iLO access is available before starting maintenance.Additional NotesThe DC-SCM module provides two network paths:BMC Dedicated LAN (Management) – remains active during the update/reset.Intel I210 1GbE (OS) – temporarily disconnects during the update cycle.
