The drive firmware update and downgrade process through HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) supports a maximum of 64 downstream drives of the same family per HPE storage controller. If the number of connected drives exceeds this limit, some firmware update or downgrade operations may fail.
Any HPE server running iLO 5 firmware v3.16 (or earlier) and configured with an HPE storage controller that is connected to more than 64 downstream drives of the same family.
As a workaround, when more than 64 drives are connected behind an HPE storage controller, perform the downstream drive firmware update/downgrade through the Host Operating System that is using smart component pkg.The following steps are only for a Linux Host OS:Download the Smart Update Manager (SUM) tool on the OS.Add the smart component rpm along with its compsig file in a folder and use that folder in the SUM page as an additional baseline. In the SUM page using that baseline, perform the server inventory and perform the deployment. The firmware update should complete. The following steps are only for a Windows Host OS:Download the HPE SUM tool on the OS.Add the smart component .exe along with its compsig file in a folder and use that folder in the SUM page as an additional baseline. In the SUM page using that baseline, perform the server inventory and perform the deployment.
