On any HPE Synergy Compute Module running a Linux operating system and configured with an HPE Synergy 6310C 25/50Gb Ethernet Adapter (P64724-B21), the network device name may add an np{x} suffix similar to the following:This condition likely occurs because the systemd is recognizing additional hardware details, or due to a kernel/driver change which provides additional parameters to the systemd-udev.The suffix is present for netdevices that have the phys_port_name attribute in /sys. The attribute is one of the inputs of the net device naming algorithm in systemd-udevd.When this suffix present, the computed interface name contains the n<phys_port_name>.
