Certain HPE MR Gen11 storage controllers (listed in scope section) configured on HPE ProLiant Gen12 servers running firmware version 52.22.3-4650 (or earlier) may produce a Machine Check Exception (MCE) error such as below.(Processor 1 APIC ID 0x00000000 Bank 0x00000000 Status 0xB2000000'00000400 Address 0x00000000'00000000)This relates to a recent change in which pre-boot Direct Memory Access Remapping (DMAr) protection is now enabled on Gen12 systems per the example in the screenshot below). Previously, this protection was disabled by default in earlier configurations.Since the HPE MR Gen11 storage controllers added support for DMAr in version 52.26.3-5250, and HPE Gen12 systems enabled default to support DMAr, encountering the MCE error during a system boot on Gen12 systems configured with MR controller firmware version 52.22.3-4650 (or earlier) is a known behavior. This can cause the system to reboot unexpectedly.
