On HPE Superdome Flex 280 servers configured with any of the HPE Smart RAID controllers listed in the Scope section below, if attempting an upgrade of the UBM3 Backplane PIC firmware, the update may fail with the error message "failed to flash UBM firmware behind controller" in the Smart Component log file.
Any update of HPE Superdome Flex 280 Servers UBM3 backplane firmware, with the backplane behind any of the following RAID controllers:HPE 3162-8i/e Encryption RAID Cntlr (SKU# R5Y72A)HPE 3154-16i 12G SAS PCIe3 RAID CTLR (SKU# R4R47A)HPE 3154-24i 12G SAS PCIe3 RAID CTLR (SKU# R4R48A)HPE 3258p-32i/e 24G Tri-Mode PCIe4 RAID (SKU# R4R52A)
To prevent the error, de-select the "Online Flash Component for Linux - Gen10Plus UBM3 Backplane PIC Firmware" from the interactive SUM deployment.This is targeted to be resolved in a future version of the UBM3 backplane PIC firmware upgrade utility.
