Replacing a system board requires the reprogramming of the system serial number and product ID so that both match what is printed on the chassis label and/or pull tab. If the system serial number and product ID are not reprogrammed correctly, HPE OneView will not be able to re-establish management to that server. If the system serial number and product ID are not reprogrammed correctly, the following sequence of events may occur: First, refresh will fail, and a prompt to add the HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) certificate into the OneView trust store appears. This is normal and expected due to the new certificate contained in the iLO on the replacement system board. Second, refresh will prompt for the new iLO IP and credentials. After entering a valid iLO IP and credentials, the following error messages may be seen in OneView: " Unable to login to the management processor Resolution Confirm that the server is being managed by this appliance. If credentials were specified with the request, verify that they are correct and retry if appropriate ." OR " Validate server information. Issue The appliance no longer has management access to the server hardware due to a change in iLO management settings. Resolution Refresh the server hardware again, providing the correct credentials for the iLO so that management access to the server hardware can be reestablished ." These error messages will repeat until the system serial number and product ID match what is printed on the chassis label and/or pull tab.
HPE OneView 5.2 or earlier that manages ProLiant Rack (DL, DX, ML, XL-series) servers.
HPE OneView 5.30 will improve the error messages and resolution to note that the serial number and/or product IDs need to be set to match what is on the chassis label and/or pull tab. Upgrade to HPE OneView 5.30 or later to resolve this issue. To get the server back under management in OneView, perform the following steps: Connect to the server console and power on the server. Enter the RBSU by selecting F9 during POST. Modify the Product ID and Serial Number to match the system tags. Save the setting. Allow the system to go completely through POST. Power off the server. Configure the HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) network settings and user accounts as necessary. In OneView, refresh the server and verify that the serial number and product ID match the system tags. To avoid this issue, the following process should be used when replacing a system board on a OneView managed system: If a profile is applied to the server, unassign the server profile before removing the server for maintenance. Swap the system board. Do not configure the HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) on a new system board until the Product ID and Serial Number are set. Connect to the system console and power on the server. Enter the RBSU by selecting F9 during POST. Modify the Product ID and Serial Number to match the system tags. Save the setting. Allow the system to go completely through POST. Power off the server. Configure the iLO network settings and user accounts as necessary. In OneView, refresh the server and verify that the serial number and product ID match the system tags. If the iLO IP or Credentials have changed, the refresh will fail. Refresh the server again and a prompt will be displayed for a new IP address and credentials. If there was a profile applied to the server, it can now be re-applied. Use the server normally.
