On any HPE ProLiant server configured with any of the HPE Intel-based network adapters listed in the Scope section below, after upgrading the network adapter firmware to the following firmware versions, the server cannot downgrade the network adapter firmware to prior versions: Network Adapter EEPROM/NVM Version OROM Version Single NVM Version HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 368i Adapter 80001DEA 1.2529.0 N/A HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 368FLR-MMT Adapter 80001DE9 1.2529.0 N/A HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 369i Adapter 80001DEC 1.2529.0 N/A HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 568i Adapter 80001DEE 1.2529.0 N/A HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 568FLR-MMSFP+ Adapter 80001DE9 1.2529.0 N/A HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 568FLR-MMT Adapter 80001DE9 1.2529.0 N/A HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 563i Adapter 800035C0 1.1375.0 N/A HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 562FLR-SFP+ Adapter 8000641A 1.2529.0 10.51.5 HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 562SFP+ Adapter 80006424 1.2529.0 10.51.5 When downgrading the network adapter firmware through the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP), a Return Code 6 with the error message "The 'update'(oem_do_flash_with_file) operation has failed" is displayed. When downgrading the network adapter firmware using the smart component, the error message displayed is "NIC firmware update completed with errors" . After downgrading the network adapter firmware, a Red Screen of Death (RSOD) or the error message "2121-A newer version of the NVM was detected than the original version" may occur during Power On Self-Test (POST) for some systems. This occurs because the previous releases do not recognize new versions of NVM map structure due to an Intel limitation.
Any HPE ProLiant server configured with any of the following Intel-based network adapters using the HPE Intel Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMware version 3.12.12, Windows Server x64 Editions version 5.2.0.0 or Linux x86_64 version 1.19.11, to update the network adapter firmware: HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 562FLR-SFP+ Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 562SFP+ Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 563i Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 568FLR-MMSFP+ Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 568FLR-MMT Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 568i Adapter HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 368FLR-MMT Adapter HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 368i Adapter HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 369i Adapter
The firmware versions listed in the table of the Description section, set a new baseline for these HPE Intel-based adapters. As future product improvements will be delivered from this new baseline, Intel recommends to start planning a migration to this new version as soon as conditions allow. Important information To prevent a Red Screen of Death (RSOD) or in case a RSOD has occurred, perform the following steps to update the System ROM and recover the system: Note: As explained in this advisory, a firmware downgrade to any firmware version prior to the versions listed in the Description section above should not be performed. Download any of the following System ROM components: For Linux: Online ROM Flash Component for Linux - HPE Apollo 2000 Gen10/HPE ProLiant XL170r/XL190r Gen10 (U38) Servers Version 2.04_04-18-2019 (or later) For VMware: ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE Apollo 2000 Gen10/HPE ProLiant XL170r/XL190r Gen10 (U38) Servers Version 2.04_04-18-2019 (or later) For Microsoft Windows: Online ROM Flash Component for Windows x64 - HPE Apollo 2000 Gen10/HPE ProLiant XL170r/XL190r Gen10 (U38) Servers Version 2.04_04-18-2019 (or later) Extract the binary file from the component.
