After completing an Avamar Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) restore to a VMware virtual machine, the operating system (OS) fails during startup and displays the following Blue Screen error:
This issue occurs due to one of the following conditions: The SCSI Controller Type selected during VMware virtual machine creation does not match the controller type used on the source system.Windows initializes an incorrect storage adapter, which results in a boot failure.The scsiport.sys file is corrupted on the target virtual or physical machine.
Option 1: Correct the SCSI Controller Type: Ensure the SCSI Controller Type of the restored virtual machine matches the configuration of the source system: VMware vSphere Procedure Power off the restored virtual machine.Right-click the virtual machine and select Edit Settings.Under Hardware, select SCSI Controller.Click Change Type.Under SCSI Controller Type, select the controller type that matches the source system.Click OK to exit the Change SCSI Controller Type menu.Click OK to exit the Virtual Machine Properties menu.Power on the virtual machine. Option 2: Replace a Corrupted scsiport.sys File: If the scsiport.sys file is corrupted, replace it using a known good copy from an identical system: Procedure: Boot the target virtual or physical machine using one of the following methods: Windows Recovery ConsoleWinPE ISOAttach the virtual disk to another functioning virtual machine Get the scsiport.sys file from the original source server or from an identical system that uses the same operating system and software preload.Copy the scsiport.sys file to the following directory on the target system: %WINDIR%\System32\Drivers Reboot the system into Windows normal mode.
