Symptoms

The CIFS share may become unavailable after 15 or 30 minutes or even 2 hours after. The time after the issue might occur varies a lot.

Cause

Restarting cifs using the following command might not help.cifs restart force Disabling and enabling CIFS using the following commands allows to get back access to CIFS share."cifs disable" then "cifs enable"The share may be available for a while then it becomes unavailable at Windows client level after a while.

Resolution

If DNS is being used for name resolution, then ensure that the Data Domain Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) used for the Data Domain hostname, and also the name used at CIFS config level, can be both resolved by the DNS server.
