The NetWorker Virtual Edition (NVE) appliance is deployed in Azure. The NetWorker or Azure administrator wants to determine whether NetWorker Virtual Edition (NVE) supports Azure Zone-Redundant Storage (ZRS) on the OS and data disks to provide replication across Availability Zones and improve resiliency during a zonal outage.
NetWorker Virtual Edition (NVE) does not support Azure Zone-Redundant Storage (ZRS) as a disaster recovery solution. Although Azure ZRS replicates managed disk data synchronously across multiple Availability Zones, it does not guarantee application-consistent or NetWorker-consistent disk states following a zonal failure. As a result, the NVE operating system disk and NetWorker data disks replicated through ZRS may not contain a fully consistent or recoverable NetWorker database. Because database integrity and application consistency cannot be guaranteed, Dell Technologies does not support using Azure ZRS as a disaster recovery mechanism for NVE.
For NetWorker Server Disaster Recovery scenarios, use the NetWorker Server Disaster Recovery ( nsrdr ) procedure: NetWorker: NetWorker Server Disaster Recovery (NSRDR) . This method involves deploying a new NVE in Azure with the same hostname as the original NVE. After the NVE is deployed and post deployment configuration steps are completed, NetWorker can be configured to scan in the original NVEs bootstrap device and save sets. The nsrdr command is then used to recover the NetWorker server's configuration, media database, and client file indexes. The above article provides steps for performing these actions; however, NetWorker support engagement is recommended while using the nsrdr command.
