When upgrading Dell Data Domain Operating System (DDOS) from the following base versions, the RPM signature validation may fail during the upgrade process with the error: **** Upgrade precheck failed: RPM "8.7.0.1-226160.rpm" signature is invalid. Affected DDOS base version - DDOS 8.7.0.0 DDOS 8.7.0.1 DDOS 8.7.0.2 DDOS 8.6.1.10 DDOS 8.3.1.30 DDOS 7.13.1.70
The RPM signature verification process may fail during a DDOS upgrade when an internal timeout is encountered while validating software package signatures. This issue is most commonly observed on systems experiencing slower-than-expected I/O performance, which can delay the signature verification process and cause the operation to exceed the allowed timeout threshold. As a result, the RPM signature check fails and the upgrade is aborted.
To address this issue, MDU (Minimally Disruptive Upgrade) packages are available for version 8.7 and earlier LTS releases. Customers can run an MDU upgrade before performing the DDOS upgrade to avoid the signature check failure. Customers can login using Dell Credentials to access the RPM here: R9R15_MDU-to-address-the-failure-of-rpm-signature-validation-in-DDOS-upgrade-from-versions-8.7.0.0-2,-8.6.1.10,-8.3.1.30,-7.13.1.70.pdf The MDU upgrade uses the same CLI as the DDOS upgrade, with the MDU RPM specified as follows: system upgrade start <MDU.rmp> Selecting the Correct MDU Package : MDU packages are version-specific, so customers must select the MDU package that matches the DDOS version currently running on their system. For example, if the system is running DDOS release 8.6.1.10, the correct package is MDU_SigCheck_8.6.1.10.rpm . The MDU upgrade will be blocked if the DDOS and MDU versions do not match. The following table lists the available MDU packages and their applicable DDOS releases: MDU Package Applicable DDOS Release(s) MDU_SigCheck_8.7.rpm DDOS-8.7.0.0, DDOS-8.7.0.1, DDOS-8.7.0.2 MDU_SigCheck_8.6.1.10.rpm DDOS-8.6.1.10 MDU_SigCheck_8.3.1.30.rpm DDOS-8.3.1.30 MDU_SigCheck_7.13.1.70.rpm DDOS-7.13.1.70 Note: If the system is running a version newer than those listed above, the MDU upgrade is not required.
