During a Cyber Recovery vault restore, PowerProtect Data Manager incorrectly inherits the production network interface from the asset’s protection policy, causing restore failures and misleading error messages. The misleading error is seen in the logs: sdmng.log: 2026-05-19T08:21:42.990Z ERROR [] [assetRestore-3] [00000000-0000-4000-a000-000000000000][][TASK_ID:bce5b6f36bab9d59][TRACE_ID:9da08ee71d35d4c7;JOB_ID:9e536cfc869fd24e][] [c.e.d.e.s.s.RemoteSystemCreateStep.prepareOutputMapAndUpdateActivityAndEemiMessage(123)] - Failed to process request error: com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.exception.SdmngException: org.springframework.web.client.HttpServerErrorException$InternalServerError: 500 Internal Server Error on POST request for "https://POWERSTORE_IP:443/api/rest/remote_system": "{"messages":[{"code":"0xE0201002008F","severity":"Error","message_l10n":"Failed to add remote system PPDM_PowerStore_SU due to Verify the certificate for the specified management address DataDomain.domain.com.","arguments":["PPDM_PowerStore_SU","Verify the certificate for the specified management address DataDomain.domain.com"]}]}" at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.BaseRestClient.genericException(BaseRestClient.java:352) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.BaseRestClient.initializeExceptionTypeAndMessage(BaseRestClient.java:361) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.BaseRestClient.execute(BaseRestClient.java:222) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.BaseRestClient.executeRestCall(BaseRestClient.java:153) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.PowerStoreRestClient.pstRestCall(PowerStoreRestClient.java:313) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.PowerStoreRestClient.postRequest(PowerStoreRestClient.java:207) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.PowerStoreRestClient.postRequestPowerStoreCluster(PowerStoreRestClient.java:190) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.PowerStoreRestOperations.createRemoteSystem(PowerStoreRestOperations.java:595) at [....] Caused by: org.springframework.web.client.HttpServerErrorException$InternalServerError: 500 Internal Server Error on POST request for "https://POWERSTORE_IP:443/api/rest/remote_system": "{"messages":[{"code":"0xE0201002008F","severity":"Error","message_l10n":"Failed to add remote system PPDM_PowerStore_SU due to Verify the certificate for the specified management address DataDomain.domain.com.","arguments":["PPDM_PowerStore_SU","Verify the certificate for the specified management address DataDomain.domain.com"]}]}" at org.springframework.web.client.HttpServerErrorException.create(HttpServerErrorException.java:102) at org.springframework.web.client.DefaultResponseErrorHandler.handleError(DefaultResponseErrorHandler.java:189) at org.springframework.web.client.DefaultResponseErrorHandler.handleError(DefaultResponseErrorHandler.java:147) at org.springframework.web.client.RestTemplate.handleResponse(RestTemplate.java:953) at org.springframework.web.client.RestTemplate.doExecute(RestTemplate.java:902) at org.springframework.web.client.RestTemplate.execute(RestTemplate.java:841) at org.springframework.web.client.RestTemplate.exchange(RestTemplate.java:702) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.BaseRestClient.lambda$execute$0(BaseRestClient.java:187) at io.github.resilience4j.retry.Retry.lambda$decorateSupplier$5(Retry.java:301) at io.github.resilience4j.retry.Retry.executeSupplier(Retry.java:523) at com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.sdmng.util.BaseRestClient.execute(BaseRestClient.java:187) ... 21 common frames omitted While the evidence is: sdmng.log: 2026-05-19T08:04:30.311Z INFO [] [assetRestore-2] [00000000-0000-4000-a000-000000000000][][TASK_ID:9e5801bee2e8a9a5][TRACE_ID:8b383131f554562d;JOB_ID:b95a6e2035c0b006][] [c.e.b.d.s.n.DataDomainNetworkAddressServiceImpl.getAddress(215)] - DataDomainNetworkAddressResource(ddboostControlPathAddress=DataDomain.domain.com, ddboostDataPathAddress=DATADOMAIN_PRODUCTION_IP, ddboostReplicationDataPathAddress=DataDomain.domain.com, ddboostControlPathCredentialId=20123809-df7c-4b65-acf7-78c1cf2361f7, ddboostControlPathPort=3009, managementDataPathAddress=VAULT_DATADOMAIN_IP.domain.com, dataNodeAddress=DATADOMAIN_PRODUCTION_IP)
Inheritance of Production Network Interface During a Cyber Recovery vault restore, PowerProtect Data Manager retrieves the network interface defined in the asset's protection policy. The service DataDomainNetworkAddressServiceImpl supplies the address 10.25.20.40, which is the production‑side DD Boost data path. Why the address is incorrect for vault restores. The vault Data Domain is expected to use its own internal network interfaces, not the hard coded production interface. PowerProtect Data Manager passes the production address to the alternate PowerStore, causing the Remote System setup to fail. This behavior occurs for versions 20.1 and earlier.
Remove the asset from the protection policy in the vault recovered PowerProtect Data Manager. This enables the restore to use the standard vault Data Domain network interfaces to set up the Remote System in the vault alternate PowerStore. Remove Asset from Protection Policy in Vault Recovered PowerProtect Data Manager. Log in to the PowerProtect Data Manager UI of the vault‑recovered instance. Go to Assets and locate the affected asset. Click More Actions and Remove from Policy . Reinitiate the restore Job. The restore now uses the vault data domain’s native network interfaces. After the asset is removed from the policy, the restore proceeds with success.
