Affected Platforms: All Dell ThinOS 10 platforms are listed in the Dell ThinOS 10.x Hardware Compatibility List Affected Operating Systems: Dell ThinOS 10 build 2602 When ThinOS 10 is upgraded to firmware version 2602 using Wyse Management Suite (WMS), the upgrade causes the ThinOS 10 clients to become inoperable. Symptoms observed include: The thin client no longer checks in to Wyse Management Suite (WMS) All client information is displayed as N/A: Platform Operating System Build Name Build Version BIOS Name BIOS Version Applications
A conflict between device policy settings and application deployment policies caused the failure. Disabling Bluetooth at the device policy level while simultaneously setting certain ThinOS Packages to Uninstall during the firmware 2602 upgrade led to system corruption, rendering the ThinOS 10 clients inoperable.
Perform a ThinOS 10 device recovery using the R key option during boot, including required WMS policy. Log in to the WMS console and configure the following: Select Groups & Configs > Network Configuration > Bluetooth Settings > Bluetooth Disable Bluetooth = No (default setting) Clicking the Reset Policy arrow , then Save & Publish Bluetooth should be set to enabled once these steps are completed. Example: Dell ThinOS 10 device recovery: On the inoperable ThinOS10 device, a hard reboot was initiated by pressing and holding the power button to force shutdown, followed by powering the device back on. When the thin client begins rebooting (immediately and continuously), tap the R key on the keyboard. Device displays Secured with Dell SafeBIOS (as indicated by the screen during boot) may reboot two to three times as part of the recovery process. Continue tapping the R key through each reboot until the ThinOS UI is displayed . Select I have reviewed all license agreements and then click the > icon to continue. A Dell ThinOS 10 - Welcome to the most secure Thin Client Operating System message is displayed. From the Dell ThinOS 10 welcome screen, complete the device setup. Optionally, press Ctrl + ESC on the keyboard to skip the initial configuration.
