The COM port may not be split into the number of instances specified in the Windows operating system. Step to reproduce: Go to Device Manager . Locate and expand Ports (COM & LPT) . Right click the NMEA main port and open Properties . Go to Port Settings and select Advanced . Specify the number of splitters and press OK . If it fails, the number of ports remains the same and are not split into the number specified. If successful, the number of ports is changed and split into the number specified. Affected Platforms: Dell Pro Rugged 10 Tablet RA00260 Dell Pro Rugged 12 Tablet RA02260
Prolific USB to Serial Controller Driver’s DellGPS.exe is not listed in OS Task Scheduler which causes the COM port splitting to malfunction.
Note: Before starting the update, perform the following: Back up all personal data. For more information, refer to Back Up and Recovery . Connect the AC adapter. Updating the Prolific USB to Serial Controller Driver to version 7.0.5.14 or later on the tablet resolves the issue. To download and install the driver, refer to the Driver Update Guide .
