An issue with servers halting during POST has been discovered. This stop occurs at "Configuring Memory." Figure 1: Configuring Memory Servers Affected: R470 R570 R670 R770 Note: The issue is only observed in BIOS version 1.2.x or earlier. Note: The issue does not manifest with BIOS versions 1.3.2 or and newer.
Root cause is being investigated.
Dell Engineering is aware and investigating for the root cause. The advise is to update the BIOS to version 1.3.2 or newer. If a system stops responding at "Configuring Memory", the following workaround should be used. Workaround: Clear the NVRAM. Be advised that clearing NVRAM resets BIOS defaults. See the note below on exporting and reimporting BIOS settings. Shut the server off and remove power Set the NVRAM_CLR DIP switch to ON Reapply power and boot the system Server should not stop responding, and POST should continue as normal After the system has booted, shut the server off and remove power Move the NVRAM_CLR DIP switch back to its OFF position Reapply power and boot the server Server should not stop responding, and POST should continue as normal Update BIOS to version 1.3.2 or higher, the latest BIOS is always recommended Information about NVRAM_CLR can be found in the Installation and Service Manual for each system Note: Clearing NVRAM resets all BIOS settings to default. Note: BIOS settings can be exported through iDRAC and reimported after the workaround is applied.
