An affected system may encounter single-bit or multi-bit ECC errors. It may also experience unplanned data unavailability related to the Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC). The following Lifecycle Events may be encountered: MsgID Description OSE0001 The operating system has crashed or stopped responding and a watchdog action was performed. CTL40 A multi-bit Error Correction Code (ECC) error is detected on the RAID Controller in {location}. CTL41 Single-bit ECC error on <Controller name>. UEFI0459 The UEFI driver of the BROADCOM EFI SAS Driver (Vendor ID: NA, Device ID: NA) in an undefined location is indicating the status as Failed. PR8 Device not detected: PERC H755/H755N/H750{Front/Adapter} (RAID Controller in {Slot/SL} X) The PERC and associated virtual disks may become unresponsive. The system may experience unexpected reboots. The Driver Health Manager Message m ay report multi-bit ECC errors on the PERC. The system may display the following message: "Please contact Technical Support to fix Multibit ECC errors noticed on the RAID controller. If you continue, data corruption can occur. Press 'X' to continue or else power off the system, replace the controller and reboot." Figure 1: This critical message indicates multibit ECC errors on a controller.
Unoptimized memory initialization can lead to spurious single‑bit (SBE) and multi‑bit (MBE) ECC events on otherwise functional hardware.
To resolve the issue, update the PERC11 firmware to version 52.30.0-6753 or later (released June 2026). This release includes improved DDR4 memory initialization to eliminate spurious SBE/MBE events. Dell Technologies recommends deploying this update proactively across all systems regardless of symptom presence, due to the potential for unexpected failure. Important Note: After the firmware update, perform a complete graceful shutdown of the system. The new memory settings are then enabled when the server is then powered on. Caution: A warm reboot or system reset DOES NOT enable the updated memory settings. If the iDRAC or Lifecycle Controller is used to perform the update, a graceful shutdown to power off the system after the update is still required. Critical Activation Requirement (MANDATORY) The firmware update alone is not sufficient to resolve the issue. After the firmware update, a controller power cycle is required to apply the new memory initialization. To apply the corrected memory settings: Perform the firmware update. Download the firmware from the Dell support site. Follow the instructions in the firmware release‑note file to apply the update. Initiate a graceful OS shutdown or IDRAC "Power Off System" operation. The system must be fully powered off. Wait at least 90 seconds. Power the system back on. "Controller not Detected" Recovery Procedure If the controller is not detected after a multi-bit ECC event, perform these steps: Attempt a full iDRAC "Power Off System" operation, wait 90 seconds, then power on the system. If the controller recovers, a Driver Health Message is shown during POST. Acknowledge any message for Multibit ECC errors on the controller by entering 'X' in the input box. Exit the Driver Health Manager to continue the boot process. Immediately update the firmware to version 52.30.0-6753 or later, following the mandatory procedure above.
