Laptop battery is not charging If you own an Inspiron 3515 or Vostro 3515 laptop, you may experience a problem with the battery charging. The battery does not charge when the AC adapter is connected. The laptop correctly identifies the AC adapter in the operating system. Running the SupportAssist Enhanced Preboot System Assessment (ePSA) diagnostics identifies the correct AC adapter but reports that the Primary Battery Current flow is 0 mA. Back to Top

Updating to the latest BIOS version available for your computer resolves the issue. To download and install the latest BIOS: WARNING: Dell Technologies recommends disconnecting devices before updating the BIOS. (Devices such as external hard drives, printers, scanners, and so on.) WARNING: Dell laptops must have the battery installed and charged to at least 10% before you begin the BIOS update. Dell Technologies recommends connecting the laptop to AC power before beginning the update process. NOTE: To learn more about updating the BIOS on a Dell computer. See the Dell knowledge base article: Dell BIOS Updates NOTE: To install the BIOS, your user account must have administrator privileges. Browse to https://www.dell.com/support/drivers . Identify your Dell computer. Click Download and Install SupportAssist to auto-detect your Dell computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Dell SupportAssist. For more information, see the following Dell knowledge base article: Dell SupportAssist (formerly Dell System Detect): Overview and Common Questions Enter the Service Tag of the laptop and click Search . Or click Browse all products and select your Dell computer from the catalog. Select the Operating System that is installed on the Dell computer. Under Category , select BIOS . Locate the latest Dell Inspiron 3515 and Vostro 3515 System BIOS . (Version 1.8.0 or newer.) Click Download and save the file to your computer. Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved. Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process. The laptop restarts as part of the installation process. Did the BIOS update correctly? Yes , the issue is resolved. No , use the following instructions: Boot into the operating system. Move the BIOS update file to the root directory. Click the Start Menu and type cmd in the search box. Right-click cmd.exe and select run as administrator . (If you see a User Access Control (UAC) prompt, select yes .) Type cd/ in the command prompt window and press the Enter key to return the windows to the root directory. Type c:\ biosflashname.exe /forceit /nopause in the command prompt window and press the Enter key. Note : Where biosflashname stands for the name of the BIOS update file. (For example, A6540A09.exe) Ensure that there is a space between the filename and the /forceit /nopause switches. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt. The update begins without giving an AC adapter warning.
