Powering On Inspiron, Vostro, and Dell Pro Laptops When certain Inspiron, Vostro, and Dell Pro laptops are on AC adapter power, you can briefly press the power button to power the laptop on. But, if the AC adapter is removed and the laptop is on battery power. You must hold the power button down for more than one second to power the laptop on. The system takes longer to recognize the power button on battery power than on AC power due to aggressive hardware sleep states, lower polling frequencies, and deliberate anti-accidental press delays designed to maximize battery life.
