Nodes are unable to proceed past the initial OS installation. Nodes will not have IP addresses assigned to the interfaces in the OS. The iDRAC console may show that the server is failing to PXE boot. The virtual console plug-in type is set to eHTML5 prior to starting deployment. User will see the following message in the rack server exception log: #<Timeout::Error: Execution expired>
This issue is caused by the changes in the new 4.40.00.00 and 4.40.10.00 FW of the iDRAC. This changes the default iDRAC virtual console plug-in type to eHTML5. This prevents PowerFlex Manager from unmounting the OS ISO and mounting the personality ISO and completing the host network configuration. The expansion or build will fail with puppet error and logging into the console of the node shows the OS installed, but the network not configured. This does not impact upgrade scenarios. Affected bundles with this iDRAC version: IC 37.355.00 IC 37.361.00 RCM 3.6.1.0 RCM 3.5.5.0 RCM 3.3.10.0
RCM released the week of 2021-10-18 which include the fixed iDRAC version 5.00.10.20: PowerFlex rack Release 3.5.5.2 PowerFlex rack Release 3.6.1.2 Workaround: If this issue is encountered, the following workaround resolves the issue so the User can complete deployment successfully: When the service has reached an error state in PowerFlex Manager, open a new webpage to each node being deployed in the service. Go to Maintenance à Diagnostics. There is a red button that states Reset iDRAC to Factory Defaults , click this button then select the Discard all settings, but preserve user and network settings radio button. Click OK on the next page. Go to step 3 after the iDRAC reboots. (this operation may take upwards of 5 minutes) To do this using RACADM, use this command: racadm -r <ip address> -u <username> -p <password> racresetcfg -f Go to Configuration à Virtual Console. In the Virtual Console section, choose HTML5 for Plug-in Type, click Apply. No reboot is required. To do this using RACADM, use this command: racadm -r <ip address> -u <username> -p <password> set iDRAC.virtualConsole.PluginType 2 Once all nodes have been set back to HTML5, you can do a retry on the service in PowerFlex Manager or remove the service from PowerFlex Manager, and re-deploy it.
