AppSync uses the date and time to create the snapshot name. For example taking the snapshot xyzSQL-p56_R_xx_xx_Data1..snap.363014040319, the last 12 digits (363014040319) are broken down as second=36, minute=30, hour=14, day=04, month= 03, year = 19. If AppSync creates two snapshots at the same time they will be created with the same name and one will fail per this article. There can be multiple reasons for two Snapshots being created at the same time. The most obvious is when two or more service plans are started at the same time. But in this case, the Service Plan had entities subscribed from two different source hosts, resulting in multiple Copy Phases during a single Service Plan.
Workaround: If there are two SPs which appear to run at the same time -- Stagger the Service Plans by 5 to 10 minutes If there are entities from two or more source hosts protected in one SP Create multiple Service Plans so that each contains elements from only one source host.
