This issue was introduced in AppSync 3.8. So upgrading an existing AppSync environment to AppSync 3.8 where Oracle replication is being carried out and where the Data and Logs are part of an existing Vplex CG will cause this issue. Also in a working AppSync 3.8 environment adding the Data and Logs luns of an Oracle DB to a VPlex CG will also create this issue. When running an Oracle Service Plan it may fail with the error: Event [ORCL_000055]: Protection on the DB Failed. Archive Log/FRA Destination cannot be on the same consistency group as the data files/control files/redolog files. This may happen for a number of reasons. After upgrading to AppSync 3.8 where the Data and Logs luns are part of VPlex Consistency Group (CG).After adding the Data and Logs luns to a VPlex CG.
This is caused by an error in the logic used to determine if the logs and data can be replicated separately as is required when making a Hot Backup.AppSync does not make any copies using VPlex technologies so the presence of the a VPlex CG should not affect the creation of a copy but in this case it does. AppSync erroneously treats the VPlex CG in the same manner as it would treat a RecoverPoint or XIO CG where we do use these technologies to make copies.
