Error msg: IEF359I RESERVED OR BROKEN DASD DEVICE 9600 NOT VARIED ONLINE This is an intermittent problem and results in the first unit address in the CU not coming online. No errors are seen in the storage array.
The problem is very rare and was seen as they vary online a CU which consists of BCV devices.
If this issue is encountered just vary the device online and it will come online. Fix 93383 addresses this issue and is available in HYPERMAX OS 5977.1125.1125.
