This issue prevents administrators from removing or updating SMTP server settings as required for compliance, security, or operational changes. The inability to disable the SMTP server without a full reimage impacts configuration management and can cause operational or security concerns if SMTP needs to be removed urgently.
Unchecking the SMTP server option displays the warning: -"By proceeding with this step, you disable all the SMTP server settings that are configured in Cisco ISE." -The Save button becomes greyed out and cannot be clicked. -If other related options (e.g., "Use TLS/SSL encryption") are toggled, the Save button becomes available, but: -Upon clicking Save, the warning "SMTP server is not configured" appears. -After refreshing the page, a warning is shown: "Discard changes you have made? You currently have unsaved changes. To stay on the page click Cancel. To exit without saving your changes click OK." -The SMTP server configuration is still present and unchanged. -Pressing the Reset button also reverts to the previous SMTP configuration and does not apply the disable action.
Cisco ISE version 3.4, observed in the following patch scenarios: -Patch 2 upgraded directly to Patch 4. -Patch 2 → Patch 4, then uninstalling Patch 4 and installing Patch 3, then reapplying Patch 4. -Uninstalling all previous patches and installing only Patch 4. The only observed solution is to reimage the system and restore the configuration backup on a fresh ISE 3.4 Patch 4 installation.
The only effective workaround found is to reimage the system and then restore the configuration backup. No in-place fix or configuration change resolves the issue.
Example Steps to Reproduce Install ISE 3.4 with patch 2 and 3, uninstall patch 3 and go directly from patch 2 to patch 4. -Navigate to the SMTP server settings in Cisco ISE 3.4 Patch 4. -Uncheck the "Enable SMTP server" option. -Observe the warning dialog. -Attempt to save ? note that the Save button is disabled. -Toggle other related options (e.g., "Use TLS/SSL encryption") and attempt to save ? changes are not retained after refreshing. There are no specific logs that can point the issue.
