Memory leak seen in the PIM6 process on Cisco Nexus 9000 when PIMv6 Bidir RPs are frequently added/removed. Over time this can cause unnecessary growth of PIM6 memory usage, especially in large or highly dynamic multicast environments
- Gradual increase in PIM6 memory usage over time. - Possible PIM6 process restart if memory thresholds are hit.
- Cisco Nexus 9000 running IPv6 PIM Bidir. - Multiple IPv6 Bidir RPs (often across multiple VRFs). - Frequent configuration churn of Bidir RP entries (add/delete/modify via scripts, templates, or config replace).
- Minimize Bidir RP add/delete cycles where possible. - If memory growth is observed, restart PIM6 or reload the switch during a maintenance window to reclaim memory. - Long-term solution: upgrade to a software release that includes this fix
