A vulnerability in the BGP routing protocol of NX-OS could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a BGP process crash on affected system and a limited DoS condition. This vulnerability is due to improper memory allocation for BGP peering. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by establishing a successful BGP peer with an affected and trusted device and then changing the AS number to force a misconfiguration and a BGP peer failure. Letting the BGP peer flap over an extended period of time (weeks) could cause the BGP process to run out of memory. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause a BGP process crash and restart which can flap the BGP route table on an affected device. Cisco has assigned this vulnerability a Security Impact Rating (SIR) of Low rather than Medium as the score indicates. The reason is that the conditions required for exploitation reduces the impact as scored.
