SDA - Catalyst Center SWIM workflow issue. EWLC sub-packages installation (EWLC) is failing due to previously installed SMUs that are no longer Active on the system.
- CatC SWIM process to install EWLC on Catalyst switches. - Catalyst switches have had SMUs installed in the past and currently using an IOS-XE release that doesn't have SMUs.
Workaround 1: service internal, install clear state, reboot Workaround 2: copy SMUs back to switch, then run command "install deactivate file flash:SMU" for each (even if it fails, the switch clears them), then install remove inactive, reboot. Workaround 3: Untag only the gold tag from SMUs and run SWIM upgrade on the same IOS code to trigger deactivation workflow. After it completes, then proceed to tag new IOS version and run SWIM upgrade again to proceed with upgrade of the code to next version.
When checked the option "Initiate Flash Cleanup after Activation" from Catalyst Center, it will send an "install remove inactive" command. This command doesn't automatically deactivates SMUs previously activated on the system when updating to a new IOS-XE release. But it does delete the files from flash. Since the SMUs names stick to the patch history of the switches given that they were not properly deactivated, when trying to add new sub-package (such as the EWLC), it will fail as it needs to find the SMU files in the flash, which are gone due to the Clean Up from CatC. SWIM deactivation workflow for SMUs is broken when directly tagging the target image. Given that no deactivation is send to the switches, then install service will get in broken state and won't allow future activations of any patch code (including ewlc).
