When proxy is configured and SLA process restarted, Smart license registration fails stating "Failed to send the message to the server. Please verify the DNS Server/HTTP Proxy settings". This is a generic error for network communication issues, a packet capture is required and it will show traffic trying to connect to Cisco Smart Software Manager directly instead of through proxy
Issue has been seen first observed on FMC 7.2.8.1 - Proxy is configured - Smart licensing
If the FMC is not registered with the licensing server, try disabling and then re-enabling the global proxy configurations from the FMC GUI. If the FMC is already registered with the licensing server and you only need to update the proxy configuration, please follow the steps outlined below. Enable proxy service from CLI: > expert sudo troubleshoot_smartlicense.pl ********** Troubleshooting Utility ********** 1. Display Smart License Usages 2. Display ShowTechSupoort Information 3. Generate SmartLicense Troubleshoot Report 4. Disable global proxy for Smart License 5. Enable global proxy for Smart License 6. Reconcile Essential (and MCv for FMCv) licenses for active devices 7. Stop Smart Licensing trial mode. 8. Switch to a different communication model (Smart Transport or Call Home) 9. Smart License Registration with force mode (This will delete existing instance if registered in any virtual account) 10. Exit ********************************************** Enter choice: Choose option 5, then 0 to exit and attempt registration again from FMC UI
Further checks shows that fmc is not using the configured proxy for communication
