- Intermediate Nexus 9000 switches in the PIM source-path tree duplicate PIM register messages causing CoPP drops and PIM instability. - Transit PIM Register or PIM Register STOP packets are punted on IHRs
Nexus 9000 switches can leak a copy of PIM register message to software as well as forward in hardware. Both copies are routed to next hop device.
Separate PIM register in discrete CoPP class using custom CoPP profile. Needs to be done on all Nexus devices in the source-path for register and associated register-stop burst.
Depending upon the number of pim packets and the frequency at which the Registers arrive, there is a chance to exceed CoPP CIR's resulting in dropping legitimate PIM packets (and this may in turn cause PIM neighborship flaps)
