Description

Symptom

When using logging host to send logging output to a syslog server, the Router is truncating lines sending messages that are supposed to be in one single line in two separate lines, example below for a SIP Debug: Allow: INVITE, OPTIONS, BYE, CANCEL, ACK <===== The Router sent this first , PRACK, UPDATE, REFER, SUBSCRIBE, NOTIFY, INFO, REGISTER <====== Then it sent the second part on a separate syslog message. Server: Cisco-SIPGatewa <=== The Router sent this first y/IOS-16.6.1 <====== Then it sent the second part on a separate Packet captures taken at the Router interface confirm the same. This happens around every 600 bytes of data that needs to be sent to the syslog server.

Conditions

?logging host? configuration in place. IOS and IOS-XE are affected. ISR G2 and ISR G3 experience the problem. TCP and UDP experience the issue.

Workaround

There is no workaround.

Further Problem Description

In the process of working in new ways to automate debug log collection in IOS/IOS-XE platforms, we use different ways now: Logging Persistent (CPU impacting) Logging to Buffer (Ideally for live troubleshooting but not for random issues) Syslog (Ideally this is the best tool to log debug messages for random issues and we can make it more reliable by using TCP, with the truncated lines it causes a burden to developers to create tools to parse the messages accordingly giving)
