Symptom

Core file generated after a crash is not useable. While unzipping, gzip may display: ?invalid compressed data--crc error?

Conditions

This was seen while hitting CSCuw48857, however it can potentially affect other crashes.

Workaround

Try "zcat zipped_core_file >bar.core" and then see if bar.core can be debugged.
