A Cisco Catalyst 4500 Switch may see logs: %C4K_SUPERVISOR-2-SOFTERROR: memory inconsistency detected: 0xXXXX every hour
The error is triggered by a bit error in the FPGA memory. The error will occur every hour until a reload is performed. Note that the persistence of the error does not indicate new occurrences of the bit error, it is just repeating the same error until a reload is done to clear it.
Reload the router
The fix for this bug CSCuc23037 adds additional testing so that, if the bit error would be impacting, a syslog error is generated, and if it is non-impacting, it is only logged to the obfl. This fix is only applicable to the K5 based Catalyst 4500 supervisors which are the WS-X45-SUP6-E, WS-C4900M, WS-X45-SUP6L-E, WS-C4948E, WS-C4948E-F. For K10 platforms (Supervisor 7 and 8), see CSCuq09636.
