After configuring a valid proxy server in VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager (vRSLCM), the online upgrade from System Settings page fails and UI throws Red blank box error.In the /var/log/vrlcm/vmware-vrlcm.log,you will see message similar to: Failure: Error downloading manifest. Please contact your vendor. Could not resolve: vapp-updates.vmware.com (Timeout while contacting DNS servers) URL: https://vapp-updates.vmware.com/vai-catalog/valm/vmw/ae387433-13cd-4f03-ac43-8096dfada2ba/8.0.1.12.latest/manifest/manifest-latest.xml Note: This issue doesn't impact for upgrades to VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.14 or later. Because the cap service is used instead of the vami service.
To enable online upgrade of vRSLCM over a configured proxy
This issue is caused when the online upgrade of vRSLCM fails over proxy
This is a known issue.Currently, there is no resolution.
To workaround this issue, enable the VAMI proxy manually and disable it once upgrade is complete. To set VAMI proxy: Log in to the VMware Life Cycle Manager virtual appliance as root.To set the proxy, run the command: /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_set_proxy proxyServer proxyPortExample:/opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_set_proxy proxy.mycompany.com 3128 To verify proxy setting, run the command: /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_proxyNote: If your proxy sever requires authentication, edit the /etc/environment configuration file and add the user name and password.Example:http_proxy=http://username:password@proxy.mycompany.com:3128 Re-try the upgrade. To Reset VAMI proxy: Log in to the VMware Life Cycle Manager virtual appliance as root.To Reset the proxy, run the command: /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_set_proxy NONE To verify proxy setting are removed, run the command: /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_proxy
