The datastore is not accessible by all hosts. The number of shared datastores between all hosts is less than 2.While implementing a vSphere High Availability (HA) configuration, you see this error on one of the ESXi 5.x and above hosts: The number of heartbeat datastores for host is 1, which is less than required: 2 The number of heartbeat datastores for host is 0, which is less than required: 2
To resolve the The number of heartbeat datastores for host is 1, which is less than required: 2 error, add a secondary heartbeat datastore.
This issue occurs if there is no redundancy in shared storage to allow for datastore heartbeating. As of vSphere 5.0, vSphere HA requires a minimum of two shared datastores shared between all hosts in a cluster for proper datastore heartbeat detection to function.
If the HA error message is disabled, there is no notification of the lack of redundancy for datastore heartbeat.
To resolve this issue, add a secondary heartbeat datastore. For more information, see the Datastore Heartbeating section in the: vSphere Availability Guide 5.0vSphere Availability Guide 5.1vSphere Availability Guide 5.5vSphere Availability Guide 6.0vSphere Availability Guide 6.5vSphere Availability Guide 6.7 Warning: This workaround suppresses the error which reports the configuration having insufficient heartbeat datastores. To disable the HA error message: Log in to vCenter Server.Right-click the cluster and click Edit Settings.Click vSphere HA > Advanced Options.Under Option, add an entry for das.ignoreInsufficientHbDatastore.Under Value, type true.Click Cluster Features.De-select Turn on vSphere HA and click OK.Wait for all the hosts in the cluster to deconfigure HA, then right-click the cluster and click Edit Settings.Click Cluster Features.Click Turn on vSphere HA.Click OK.
