Installing or reinstalling VMware Horizon Composer fails.You see either of these errors: Error:28014 Error:1603 In the vminst.log file, you see entries similar to: svm: 08/05/21 09:04:43 ERROR: SviCfgHelper_UnbindCertificate() returned value: 8 svm: 08/05/21 09:04:44 Certificate can not be found. The vmmsi.log contains entries similar to: MSI (s) (D4:40) [14:14:21:491]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\Windows\Installer\MSICB4C.tmp, Entrypoint: VMSaveConfig CustomAction VM_SaveConfig returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox) Action ended 14:14:24: InstallFinalize. Return value 3. When using the default port 18443 to install, if you try to use a previously created certificate, you see a notification indicating that the SSL certificate is bound to a different port or the certificate is already bound to a port.When using the Composer Install wizard, you see the error: VMware View Composer -- Installation operation failed. In the vminst.log file, you see a message similar to: MSI (c) (24:34) [12:36:28:575]: Product: VMware View Composer -- Installation operation failed. MSI (c) (24:34) [12:36:28:606]: Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: VMware View Product Version: 3.0.0.691993. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: VMware, Inc.. Installation success or error status: 1603.
This issue occurs due to an unclean uninstallation of the VMware Horizon Composer services, which might have left behind registry entries that bind the certificate to a TCP port and does not allow another certificate to be bound to that port.To resolve this issue, remove the VMware Horizon Composer certificates from the personal keychain following the steps below: Note: This procedure modifies the Windows registry. Before making any registry modifications, ensure that you have a current and valid backup of the registry and the virtual machine. For more information on backing up and restoring the registry, see the Microsoft article 136393. Run the Horizon Composer installer with the Run as Administrator option to verify whether the installer will complete installation without the errors noted in the Symptoms section. If the installation process failed with the same error codes as before, continue with the next step.Click Start > Run, type regedit, and click OK. The Registry Editor window opens. Navigate to these keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet001 > Services > HTTP > Parameters > SslBindingInfoHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet002 > Services > HTTP > Parameters > SslBindingInfoHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet003 > Services > HTTP > Parameters > SslBindingInfoHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > HTTP > Parameters > SslBindingInfo Note: All of these registry keys may not exist. Some keys may have ControlSet002 and others may have ControlSet003. Look for 0.0.0.0:18443 or the port you are trying to use.If the port exists, remove its entry in all the corresponding registry locations. This unbinds the port from the SSL certificate.Open the Certificates Microsoft Management console and load the snap-in for Certificates for the Local machine.
