Document Subtype: Security Bulletin Document ID: hpesbhf04019en_us Last Updated: 2020-09-21 Release Date: 2020-07-29 Document Version: 5 Potential Security Impact: Local: Arbitrary Code Execution Source: Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HPE Product Security Response Team VULNERABILITY SUMMARY A potential security vulnerability has been identified in GRUB2 called "BootHole". A system is vulnerable to the BootHole Vulnerability (CVE-2020-10713) when a signed GRUB2 bootloader with the vulnerable code is allowed by the UEFI Allowed Signature Database (DB). In addition, GRUB2 fails to validate the kernel signature when booted directly without a shim, allowing secure boot to be bypassed (CVE-2020-15705) and a vulnerability could be locally exploited to allow arbitrary code execution during the boot process (CVE-2020-7205). Note: The following includes the CVE-2020-15705 GRUB2 fix: Intelligent Provisioning (IP) - (Gen10 and Gen10 Plus v3.46, Gen9 v2.82, Gen8 v1.72) Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) - (2020.03.2, 2019.12.2) Scripting Toolkit (STK) - v11.41 VMware Upgrade Pack (VUP)- v1.1A References: CVE-2020-7205 CVE-2020-10713 CVE-2020-15705 SUPPORTED SOFTWARE VERSIONS*: ONLY impacted versions are listed.
