Document Version Release Date Details 2 15 March 2018 Updated the affected versions in the Scope section and updated the Resolution section 1 1 September 2016 Original Document Release HPE Recovery Manager Central(RMC) Software supports full backup as well as incremental backups. It also allows the customer to schedule the snapshots and one-click backups separately. The incremental backup needs a snapshot that is already backed up to the HPE StoreOnce system. The time taken for an incremental backup increases as the number of snapshots between an incremental backup and the previous backup increases. For a customer who creates a snapshot for every hour and does an incremental backup daily, there will be 23 snapshots between the current backup and the previous backup. The time taken for fetching the HPE StoreServ array unshared (delta) map increases. This causes the pre-backup time to increase, thus the total time for backup increases. The backup time is proportional to the number of snapshots between the last backup and the current incremental backup. Backups can fail if the backlog of snapshots since the last incremental backup is high (~200 and above).
The frequency of this issue occurring is expected to be medium. Many customers will perform incremental backups frequently, ensuring the backlog of snapshots between backups will be small. However, a daily backup with hourly snapshots usage model is likely to be relatively popular, and this will result in the warning message documented later in this advisory. This issue affects HPE Recovery Manager Central Software versions 4.1.0 and earlier.
Upgrade HPE Recovery Manager Central Software to version 5.0.0. HPE also recommends upgrading the HPE 3PAR OS to the latest supported version. Workaround The following workaround can be used if the customer is not able to upgrade to HPE RMC Software version 5.0.0: Increase the frequency of the incremental backup corresponding to the frequency of the snapshots. NOTE : Products sold prior to the November 1, 2015 separation of Hewlett-Packard Company into Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company and HP Inc. may have older product names and model numbers that differ from current models.
