Original Document Release.
When performing a firmware update of the System ROM or an update for the Option Card firmware on a ProLiant Gen8 or ProLiant Gen9 server, no warning message will display regarding the operating system encryption procedures.
This will only occur on ProLiant Gen8 or ProLiant Gen9 servers with installed Trusted Module (TM) cards via the Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) interfaces (e.g., Web UI, CLI, RIBCL, RIS). Since Bitlocker does not support TM, this message has been suppressed for TM instances during firmware updates and the firmware update will continue without suspending the encryption software.
Without the recovery key being available, the data stored in the Trusted Module may potentially be lost.
Scope
Any ProLiant Gen8 or ProLiant Gen9 server configured with TM cards installed and running Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) Firmware Version 2.30.
Resolution
This issue is resolved in Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) 2.40 Pass 11.
Ensure the encryption software is suspended before attempting to update the firmware. Use the BIOS or HP Smart Update Management (HP SUM) interfaces to update the firmware in order for the warning message to display.
