IMPORTANT: The HPE Smart Array Controller firmware upgrade provided in the Resolution is recommended to prevent or correct a rare Smart Array Controller false failure from occurring. HPE recommends performing this upgrade at the customer's earliest possible convenience. Neglecting to perform the recommended action and not performing the recommended resolution could result in the potential for a Smart Array Controller false failure to occur. In rare instances, on the HPE ProLiant Gen8 servers listed under Platforms Affected and configured with any HPE Smart Array Controller listed in the Scope section (below), a communication issue may occur between HPE Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) and the Smart Array Controller. As a result, the Health LED on the server may blink red and a Critical Controller Error: Failed message may be displayed in the HPE Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) web interface or in the HPE Integrated Management Log (IML). This is more likely to occur on idle systems configured with one or a few drives. When this iLO 4 communication error occurs, the controller continues to operate properly and other management tools (HPE SSA, SMH, etc.) do not report an error. The error is only recorded in the IML and displayed in the Storage/Drive Arrays tab in the iLO 4 web interface and in all places iLO 4 displays storage data (web, RIBCL, and SNMP): Figure 1 : iLO 4 Drive Arrays Status Screen
