After a System ROM update on an HPE ProLiant Gen12 server to a new System ROM (as detailed in the Scope section below) that supports asset tags up to 63 characters, an error message may be encountered if the iLO 7 firmware is not updated to support this feature. When attempting to set an asset tag with more than 32 characters on a system with an updated ROM but with older iLO firmware, a generic error message, "Submit Fail For Form," will be displayed. This error message does not provide further explanation. This document will help assist with planning future firmware updates in order to avoid encountering this compatibility issue. HPE recommends coordinating System ROM and iLO updates together to ensure full feature compatibility.
All HPE ProLiant Gen12 servers are affected by this compatibility issue if they have:A newer System ROM version that supports extended asset tags:Version: 1.62_02_06_2026: Platforms: U66, U68, U69, U70, U71, U72, U74, I46Version: 1.30_02_06_2026: Platforms: U77ANDHPE Integrated Lights-Out 7 (iLO 7) version 1.19.00 or earlier, which does not support this feature.
Update the iLO 7 firmware to 1.20.00 or later. This update removes the 32-character limitation and allows asset tags to be configured up to 63 characters:https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/product?language=en_US&kmpmoid=1014860396&tab=driversAndSoftwareAs a workaround, limit Asset tags to a maximum of 32 characters - Extended 63-character feature will be unavailable until iLO is updated as noted above.
