HPE B-series Switches with Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects (UCS-FI), such as HPE B-series Fibre Channel (FC) switches running Fabric OS (FOS) version 9.2.2a or version 9.2.1c (and earlier), may encounter repeated reboots and persistent disabled states when configured with Virtual Fabric (VF) port and FC Link Aggregation Group (LAG) uplinks to Cisco UCS-FI.This issue may occur in environments where Cisco UCS/ESXi hosts have enabled Fabric Performance Impact Notification (FPIN) hardware congestion signaling. When this signaling is enabled, a logic defect in the switch’s VF port FC LAG processing path initiates an "ASSERT" failure when handling ELS_EDC frames forwarded from Cisco UCS-FI. These frames are introduced when Cisco UCS/ESXi platforms support FPIN hardware congestion signaling (e.g., VMware ESXi 8.0 U2 or later).Affected systems may exhibit one or more of the following:Unexpected switch rebootsRepeated ASSERT messagesPersistent switch disablement following multiple rebootsBelow is an example of the system log output:2025/06/28-15:03:43:253625, [HAM-1004], CHASSIS, INFO, Processor rebooted - Software Fault: ASSERT., reboot.c, line: 122, comp: hamd Kernel panic - not syncing: Fabos assertion failed cpu 1: ASSERT - Failed expression: (_fabObjType(op) == FAB_CHIP)
This advisory applies to customers operating HPE B Series switches running FOS versions earlier than 9.2.2b or 10.0.0 and using FC LAG connections to Cisco UCS-FI:HPE SN6700B 64Gb 56/24 24-port 32Gb Short Wave SFP28 Integrated Fibre Channel SwitchHPE SN6750B 64Gb 48/128 48-port 64Gb Short Wave SFP56 Integrated Fibre Channel SwitchHPE SN8600B 4-slot Power Pack+ Director SwitchHPE SN8600B 8-slot Power Pack+ Director SwitchHPE SN8700B Fibre Channel SwitchHPE Storage 64Gb 24/8 8-port 32Gb Short Wave SFP28 Switch B-series SN3700BHPE Storage Fibre Channel Switch B-series SN3600BHPE Storage Fibre Channel Switch B-series SN6600BHPE Storage Fibre Channel Switch B-series SN6650BHPE Storage SAN Extension Switch B-series SN4000BHPE Storage SAN Extension Switch B-series SN4700BHPE Synergy 32Gb Fibre Channel Upgrade E-LTU
Manual recovery is required if multiple ASSERT-related reboots occur within a 50-minute window, when the switch enters a persistent "disabled" mode to preserve SAN stability. If the switch goes into a persistent "disabled" mode, run theswitchcfgpersistentenablecommand after the underlying condition is resolved.Upgrade the HPE B-series switch to FOS version 9.2.2b or 10.0.0 or later. Contact HPE Support for CCE patches if an FOS upgrade is not possible.NOTE: Avoid FC LAG uplinks. Instead, use standard uplinks when performing the upgrade.
