Some third-party option cards (these are option cards not officially supported by HPE) that are compliant with versions of the PCIe specification earlier than version 3.0 may experience two different issues when installed in ProLiant Gen11 and Gen12 Intel-based servers.Issue 1:The third-party option card will not be discovered or be enumerated by the server. The failure to discover the card is caused by the use of the Data Link Feature Exchange during PCIe link training. This feature is not supported by the third- party option card.Issue 2:If the third- party option card is discovered, it may cause a server Red Screen during Power-On Self Test (POST). When the error occurs, the screen will alternate between three different information windows. In one of those information windows, an uncorrectable error status of 0x00004000 will be shown. The cause of the red screen failure is the improper use of PCIe 10-bitTransaction Layer Packet tags with devices that do not support this feature. Both of these issues have been observed with the Sangoma CG 6565E Media Board. However, other option cards compliant with versions earlier than 3.0 of the PCIe Specification may experience one or both of these issues as well.
Any server platforms in the "Products" list in the scenario described above.
Issue 1: The failure of the system to discover the option card due to unsupported Data Link Feature Exchange may be resolved by disabling the Data Link Feature Exchange. To disable Data Link Feature Exchange, power on the server and during POST, press F9 when prompted to enter System Utilities, then follow the steps below. At the System Utilities menu, navigate to System Configuration > BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > PCIe Device Configuration > Advanced PCIe Configuration > PCIe Data Link Feature.Select "Disabled."Press F12 to save and exit. The server will reboot.Issue 2:The red screen failure is resolved for Gen11 servers in System ROM version 2.80. Affected systems should update their Gen11 servers to System ROM version 2.80 to avoid the failure. This will be fixed for Gen12 platforms in a ROM release later in 2026. This advisory will be updated when the Gen12 System ROM is available for download. For Gen11 Servers:Click the following link:Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support CenterEnter a product name (e.g.,ProLiant Compute DL320 Gen11") in "Find Products and Downloads" search field. When the product appears, click the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" tab near the top of the page.Click the Product name.Click the "BIOS" tab.Locate and select the applicable version of the System ROM (or later).Click the Download button.Note: To ensure that you have selected the latest version of the firmware/driver, click the Revision History tab to check if a new version of the firmware/driver is available.
