On HPE ProLiant XD685 systems configured with AMD or NVIDIA GPUs and running HPE iLO 6 firmware v1.74, the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) reports incorrect GPU temperature readings. This condition occurs when multiple GPU-related PCIe sub-component sensors are present, which can lead to inconsistencies in how sensor data is reported through the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI). As a result, sensor data may be overwritten or corrupted, leading to inaccurate temperature reporting.
Any HPE ProLiant XD685 system configured with AMD or NVIDIA GPUs and running HPE iLO 6 v1.74.
To obtain accurate GPU temperature readings, execute the following command:commandipmitool sdr elist | grep -i gpusample output110.1-GPU 1-GPU | D6h | ok | 48.1 | 31 degrees C110.2-GPU 1-Memo | D7h | ok | 48.2 | 29 degrees C111.1-GPU 2-GPU | D9h | ok | 48.1 | 32 degrees C111.2-GPU 2-Memo | DAh | ok | 48.2 | 32 degrees C112.1-GPU 3-GPU | DBh | ok | 48.1 | 35 degrees C112.2-GPU 3-Memo | DCh | ok | 48.2 | 58 degrees C113.1-GPU 4-GPU | DDh | ok | 48.1 | 59 degrees C113.2-GPU 4-Memo | Deh | ok | 48.2 | 55 degrees C114.1-GPU 5-GPU | DFh | ok | 48.1 | 60 degrees C114.2-GPU 5-Memo | E0h | ok | 48.2 | 57 degrees C115.1-GPU 6-GPU | E1h | ok | 48.1 | 59 degrees C115.2-GPU 6-Memo | E2h | ok | 48.2 | 61 degrees C116.1-GPU 7-GPU | E3h | ok | 48.1 | 58 degrees C116.2-GPU 7-Memo | E4h | ok | 48.2 | 29 degrees C117.1-GPU 8-GPU | E5h | ok | 48.1 | 38 degrees C117.2-GPU 8-Memo | E6h | ns | 48.2 | DisabledNote:To understand alternative methods of harvesting temperature / power telemetry (for example, HPE iLO Web GUI or HPE iLO Redfish), refer to theHPE iLO6 User Guide.ImportantIPMI-based readings should not be relied upon until this issue is resolved in a future HPE iLO6 firmware release.This advisory will be updated when additional solutions become available.
