For any HPE Synergy 480 Gen12 Compute Modules, a direct-attached UBM firmware update may fail when using SUM and SSP 2025.10.01.When this issue occurs, the SUM deploy page shows the following error:"UBMx firmware component failed as update return an error."
In the scenario described above, any HPE Synergy 480 Gen12 Compute Modules using SUM and SSP 2025.10.01.
If this issue has already occurred, perform any of the following:Option 1:Update using OneView Server Profile method. All components will be updated successfully.OROption 2:Run local or remote SUM, proceed with baseline and host inventory. On review and deploy updates screen, unselect the drive firmware and complete updating all components including the UBMx. Re-launch local or remote SUM, proceed with baseline and host inventory. On review and deploy updates screen, update the pending drive firmware.OROption 3 (if UBMx update failure occurs):Perform the following steps:1. Reset iLO from the iLO webpage, as shown below.Go to iLO settings > Quick Actions > Reset iLO2. Update the UBMx firmware from iLO webpage. Copy the UBMx firmware from the links provided below to a local folder, update the FW from iLO web, as shown below.Go to Firmware > Quick Actions > Update Firmware > Browse file or drop the UBMx FW file in "Local File Path" option > Update.Firmware Package - UBM6 Backplane PIC PLDM Firmware for Gen10/Gen10P/Gen11/Gen12 servers usageFirmware Package - UBM10 Backplane PIC PLDM Firmware
