When performing firmware updates using SPP 2025.09.00.00 through SUM via OS-based server update either local or remote, a potential issue may occur if a drive is connected to an MR controller and both the controller and drives are being updated. Specifically, the drive firmware update may fail if initiated immediately after the MR controller firmware update. This issue occurs because the MR controller requires additional time to fully initialize after the firmware update. During this initialization period, the HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) may not receive the complete inventory, causing the drive firmware update to fail.ILO repository–based updates are not affected by this issue.
In the scenario described above, any HPE platforms running SUM version 12.3.0.
If this issue has already occurred, retry the drive firmware update after the MR controller has fully initialized. The retry should complete successfully.Alternatively, use iLO repository–based updates, which are not affected by this issue.
