Attempting to change the credentials for a storage array in HPE OneView may fail with the following error message:"Unable to update credentials.Unable to perform operation on the storage system.Resolution Verify that the correct credentials are used for the storage system and the user has sufficient privileges. Check connectivity between HPE OneView and the storage system. Check the state of the resource on the storage system on which the operation is being performed. Retry the operation."This can occur under the following conditions:The Password used for the account to manage the storage system in OneView was changed on the storage system. This will cause the following alert message to be seen in OneView:"Unable to acquire authorization when attempting to access the storage system.Resolution Verify that the storage system authorization information is valid, then retry the request."The account used to manage the storage system in OneView does not have permissions to delete objects on the storage array.Example: The account used to manage the storage system in OneView only has the "create" role. This allows objects to be created but not deleted. When an account that does not have delete permissions is used, a large number of hosts (1,000+) may be created on the storage system with a "Strm" prefix. These hosts are created by OneView as part of the user account validation process. The example below shows hosts with the "Strm" prefix displayed in the storage system management user interface:When there are a large number of hosts with the "Strm" prefix, the permission check that OneView uses during the edit credential process will fail and prevent the credentials from being changed.
Any HPE OneView managing storage systems.
Update toHPE OneView 11.00or later to change the permission check logic that prevents excessive "Strm" hosts from being created.NOTE: HPE OneView 11.00 is a valid version for those who have upgraded. However, HPE OneView 11.00 has been replaced by HPE OneView 11.01.If this issue has already occurred, perform the following workaround:Delete all of the "Strm" prefixed hosts from the storage array.NOTE: Make sure there are no paths available for any of the "Strm" hosts that will be deleted.Create or use an account from the storage array that has role that allows delete such as "edit" or "super."Edit the storage credential in OneView using the account that has delete permissions.NOTE: If assistance is required to remove the large number of "Strm" hosts, contact HPE support.Document VersionRelease DateDetails2February 20, 2026Updated the Resolution with the permanent fixes.1August 11, 2025Original Document Release.
