An offline firmware update with the September 2024 Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) or later, that is initiated via HPE OneView 8.20 (or later) may fail to update the drives behind a RAID controller. This can occur under the following conditions:When the controller is installed on HPE Gen10 or Gen10 Plus servers and the server(s) contain either of the following RAID controllers: HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 or HPE Smart Array E208i-p SR Gen10AND, when the drives are attached behind the controller and the controller firmware version is less than version 6.22.The Update firmware failure message will appear in the progress lines shown in the example below:This SPP includes newer firmware and dependencies that require the controller firmware to be at version 6.22 (or later) to properly discover the attached drives in offline mode.If the controller is running an earlier firmware version, then the firmware update will still update the controller itself. However, the drives behind the controller willnotbe detected, and therefore, the firmware will not be updated. This results in an incomplete update process that may not immediately be reported as failed.
Any HPE Gen10/Gen10+ Servers with HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 or E208i-p SR Gen10 Controllers on firmware earlier than 6.22 with drives attached behind the RAID controller and the system is managed by HPE OneView 8.90 or later.
As a workaround, perform the following steps:Update the firmware to version 6.22 for the Smart Array Controllers. The components can be found from theFirmware Package - HPE Smart Array P408i-p, P408e-p, P408i-a, P408i-c, E208i-p, E208e-p, E208i-c, E208i-a, P204i-c, P416ie-m and P816i-a SR Gen10 and SR308i-o,SR308i-p Gen11 controllers.Retry the Firmware-Only update from SPP.After retrying the SPP update, the updated controller will now properly detect the attached drives, and their firmware will be included in the update process. This issue will be fixed in a future release of HPE OneView.
