Some HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers are built with an MHS-Designed system board. This design is based on the Open Compute Program (OCP) Modular Hardware System (MHS) which standardizes form-factors and consistent interfaces between the Host Process Module (HPM) and the Datacenter Security Control Module (DC-SCM). In the MHS-Designed board, the HPM is the main system board, and the DC-SCM is the component where Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) resides.Diagnostic tools are available which allow for failure identification and subsequent field replacement at the component level. When either of the components (HPM or DC-SCM) is replaced, the two components must be re-bound afterward. This document summarizes details around the replacement/re-binding process.
This replacement process applies to the following ProLiant Compute Gen12 server platforms (both iLO 6 and iLO 7 versions):HPE ProLiant Compute DL320 Gen12HPE ProLiant Compute DL340 Gen12HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12HPE ProLiant Compute DL325 Gen12HPE ProLiant Compute DL345 Gen12HPE ProLiant Compute DL580 Gen12
Datacenter Security Control Module (DC-SCM) ReplacementIf HPE Support determines that the DC-SCM has failed, a new DC-SCM will be dispatched. After replacement, the new DC-SCM will need to be bound with the existing Host Processor Module (HPM). iLO credentials will be required to complete this process.IMPORTANT: The iLO credentials are found on the toe tag of the DC-SCM.For full replacement instructions, refer to theDC-SCM Replacementsection of the Maintenance and Services Guide for each server platform.Host Processor Module HPM (System Board) ReplacementIf HPE Support determines that the HPM has failed, a new HPM will be dispatched. Before dispatch, the agent will inform that after the replacement, the new HPM will need to be bound with the existing DC-SCM.iLO credentials will be required to complete this process. If iLO credentials cannot be found:iLO 6: A new DC-SCM must be dispatched. This will come with new credentials on toe tag which can be used to complete the binding of the HPM with the new DC-SCM.iLO 7: Follow the "Unable to log in to iLO after changing the default password" in theHPE iLO 7 Troubleshooting Guide.NOTE: If an HPE or HPE-authorized Field Engineer is required to perform the HPM replacement and the iLO credentials are not available at the time of the scheduled event, the Field Engineer will proceed with the Hardware replacement and will provide instructions to complete the binding process when the iLO credentials are available. For full replacement instructions, refer toSystem Board Replacementsection in the Maintenance and Service Guide for each server platform. For binding instructions refer to theBinding the DC-SCM with the HPMsection in the Maintenance and Service Guide for each server platform. If assistance is needed with iLO 7 credentials, contactHPE Supportand reference Document ID: a00146427en_us.Revision HistoryDocument VersionRelease DateDetails2July 14, 2025Added the ProLiant Compute DL325 Gen12, DL345 Gen12 and DL580 Gen12.1April 12, 2025Original Document Release.
